2013 General Assembly E-Docket

The 2013 General Assembly Program and Business Docket just got lighter and greener. Chalice Press, the denominational publishing house and a Disciples general ministry, has converted the docket book into a variety of eBook formats. These eBooks are available for a variety of tablets and readers and are available for free. This e‐version of the official docket includes information about general sessions, business sessions, workshops, convention facilities, vendors, and more. It is a great way to keep up with Assembly business and activities.

Three file types are available. What type of reader you use will determine which file format you will need. Links to all file types can be found on Chalicepress.com.

Video/Sound Booth Volunteers Needed

We are in need of volunteers to run the computer during both services in the fall and winter of next year. If you would like to volunteer or just learn what is involved, please contact the church office at (513) 422-2853. You can observe or be trained during the month of July.

CYF Mission Trip – July 14-20

Our CYF youth group left Sunday, July 14 to travel to Mingo County, West Virginia, and will return on Saturday, July 20. In Mingo County they will have the opportunity to serve at Kids Club or on Work Projects. Please keep our youth and their leaders in your prayers as they serve the needs of others.

Name Tags

Beginning this Sunday, July 7, name tags will be available for all who attend worship at FCC.   We encourage you to wear your tag during the months of July and August.  We are blessed to have new faces among us, and even those who have attended FCC for many years do not necessarily have the right name with the right face!  So, this is an opportunity for us to become acquainted.

The name tags will be available on the table in the Narthex.  Please return them at the end of service so they will be available the following week.

Special 3rd Sunday Collections (June 16 & July 21 & August 18)

Imagine you are a child and have to sleep on the floor because there is no furniture. Sometimes there is no running water or  electricity. Your parent(s) are so disinterested that they don’t get you up to go to school. You get yourself up and your brothers and sisters. You are usually late and inappropriately dressed. You don’t have soap, toothpaste or a toothbrush. You are one of 95% who qualify for a free lunch. You get breakfast and lunch at school. On the weekend you are given a package of food but when you walk  home some big kids or adults steal it from you at the corner hangout. You can’t wait to get back to school on Monday to eat. This is the life of some of the children at Rosa Parks Elementary School.

After meeting with the social worker at the school, the FCC Outreach  Ministry Team has decided to collect items for these children this summer so they will have supplies when the new school year starts. All items will be given directly to Rosa Parks Elementary.

Next Sunday, June 16, we will be collecting hygiene products. Needed are: toothpaste, toothbrushes (kids & adults sizes), bath soap, shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, hand sanitizer, Kleenex and disinfecting wipes. Also needed are laundry detergent and dish soap which the social worker takes with her when she makes home visits.

On July 21 we will be collecting school supplies. Needed are #2 pencils, pencil boxes, 1” 3‐ring binders, filler paper, scissors (safety and pointed), backpacks ( not tote bags), glue sticks, crayons, zip‐lock bags (sandwich/quart sizes), hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.

On August 18 we will be collecting new underwear, socks and sweat pants. We are also collecting gently used school clothes and coats for children in pre‐school through 5th grade. Please place the clothing in the wooden food pantry box. Let’s make a difference in the lives of these children!

Offering Envelopes

Our new offering envelopes for the 2013-14 fiscal year have arrived. If you have not received your envelopes, they may be picked up at the Church. If you have not previously used weekly or monthly envelopes and would like a supply, please contact Marilyn Chamberlain or notify the Church Office at (513) 422‐2853.

Our Calendar

Keys and Alarm Codes

It is necessary to periodically re‐set and clean up our security system to eliminate codes and reclaim keys which are no longer needed. If you have a key to the building or a code for the alarm system, please contact Cliff Thompson by June 15, when all building access codes will be reset.

Note that if you have access to the building and do not contact Cliff, you will be responsible for any alarm fines assessed due to not being able to turn off the alarm. Thank you for your cooperation in this endeavor.

June Worship

Pastor Roe will be on vacation the weeks of June 9 and 30 and at Otter Camp the week of June 15. Filling the pulpit will be Rev. Carol Oetzel (June 9 and 30) and Rev. Dr. Bill Edwards, Regional President and Minister, on June 16. Please be present and welcome these guests to First Christian Church.

Bring a Can of Food

The Choice Food Pantry is in desperate need of food. With school ending soon the need will be even greater. Please bring a can or box of food with you on Sunday and place in the wooden food pantry box. The Outreach Commission thanks you for your continuing support.
